What items should I send with my child to the creche?

Each child must bring with them two changes of clothes that will be kept in the creche in a zip-lock bag in their cubby, as we have messy play, I.e. water/sand/play-dough/foam etc. Parents provide food/drinks to be consumed each day. All children belongings, i.e. lunch boxes/drinks containers etc., need to be labelled. A warm coat, hat, scarf to wear during outings in colder weather. Sun hat and cream during hotter weather.

What happens if my child has difficulty settling in?

It is the policy of this service that every effort is made to ensure that the settling in period is as easy and a positive experience for both parents and child.

Settling in procedure

  • Settling-in should be a positive experience for parents and children. Parents should be encouraged to stay awhile with the child on their first day or until he/she feels comfortable in their surroundings.
  • Each parent is encouraged to spend as much time as necessary with the child during the settling in period. There is no time limit on the settling in period. The importance of a relaxed approach is emphasised.
  • A child is not pressured to participate in any activity during the settling in period.

Will Little Voyagers take my child with special needs?

In Little Voyagers, we have an open-door policy concerning special needs children. In the event of a child with special needs enrolling, the childcare manager, Tara O’Halloran will meet with the parents regarding their individual needs to work out a specific programme suited to that child.

What steps are taken if my child misbehaves?

In Little Voyagers, we have a Behavioural Management Policy. This policy’s main purpose is to ensure a happy, safe and controlled childcare environment where no form of corporal punishment, solitary confinement, immobilisation or frightening, humiliating techniques are used to deal with unwanted or inappropriate behaviour. A pleasant environment for children and staff, and all visitors is essential to the health, development and well-being of the children who use our service.

We believe that children should be encouraged to grow and develop to their full potential in a suitably planned and structural environment. They know what is expected of them and where limits are set appropriate to age, stage of development and any special need they may have.
